Hello! I'm Kirsty, a fully qualified primary school teacher and experienced online tutor based in Nottingham, UK. I have over 12 years of classroom teaching experience and more than three years of online tutoring experience, working with learners aged 4–84 from a variety of educational and cultural backgrounds. I hold a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from the University of Nottingham and a BA (Hons) in Studies in Primary Education from Nottingham Trent University. Mathematics I specialise in teaching primary Mathematics, helping children develop strong foundations in number skills, arithmetic, fractions, geometry and mathematical reasoning. I particularly enjoy breaking down challenging concepts into manageable steps, using visual explanations, interactive activities and real-life examples to build understanding and confidence. I also have experience preparing Year 6 students for UK SATs, delivering individual and small-group lessons focused on arithmetic, reasoning and problem-solving. English & Language Arts English is another of my core specialisms. I support children with reading comprehension, phonics, spelling, grammar, vocabulary, creative writing and written communication. My lessons encourage students to become confident readers, imaginative writers and independent thinkers. I adapt activities to suit individual learning styles, whether a student needs additional support with foundational literacy or more challenging work to extend their abilities. I also have three years of experience preparing students for UK 11+ and independent school entrance examinations, including English, Mathematics, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and creative writing. English as a Foreign Language (EFL/ESL) Alongside primary education, I teach English to international learners, from young children developing their language foundations to adults seeking greater fluency and confidence. My lessons cover conversational English, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing and listening skills. I also provide Business English tuition to professionals who want to communicate more effectively in international workplaces. Having taught in a highly multicultural primary school with a significant proportion of pupils learning English as an Additional Language (EAL), I understand the importance of making language accessible, practical and engaging. My Teaching Approach I believe every student deserves an education that recognises their individuality. I begin by understanding each learner's strengths, challenges, interests and goals before designing a personalised learning programme. My lessons are warm, encouraging and interactive, incorporating games, quizzes, shared whiteboards, visual resources and carefully structured activities. I regularly assess understanding, provide constructive feedback and adapt my teaching to ensure students make meaningful progress. I also have experience supporting students with additional educational needs, including autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, and individual learning support plans. Above all, I want students to feel comfortable, capable and excited about learning. Whether I'm helping a young child master multiplication, preparing a student for an entrance examination or supporting an adult with professional English, my goal is always the same: to build confidence, independence and a genuine enjoyment of learning.
