Math Diagnostic Assessment

Students rarely struggle with all of math, usually a few missing skills from earlier grades make new topics feel hard. A diagnostic session pinpoints those gaps so tutoring time goes where it helps most.

At AllSmart you can use a demo lesson as a diagnostic: the tutor works through a short set of problems with your student, notes which skills are secure and which need work, and suggests what to focus on in future lessons.

Frequently asked questions

How do I book a math diagnostic?

Choose a math tutor, then book a demo lesson from their profile. When you book, mention that you would like the session to focus on assessing your student’s current level.

What should we bring to the diagnostic session?

Recent homework, a graded test or report card comments help the tutor see where your student is. If your student has CAASPP or other test results, share those too.

What happens after the diagnostic?

The tutor will share which skills to focus on. You can then book regular lessons with the same tutor, or try another tutor if you prefer.

Is the diagnostic a formal test?

No. It is an informal assessment during a live lesson, designed to guide tutoring, not an official placement or school test.
